President William Howard Taft

Updated 3/1/16

William Howard Taft (the hatless man at the base of the statue) is the only known president of the United States to visit East Orange. This photo was taken of the president on February 9, 1912, after he had placed a wreath on the base of the Lincoln statue. At the time, the statue was located on the Oraton Parkway near New Street. It currently stands in front of City Hall, to the right of the entrance.
